You Are A Badass

Never have I ever come across a book that I have connected to, interacted with, and loved more than You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. When I tell you that this book has brought so much creativity and a new outlook on how I am living my life, I am in no way exaggerating.

I first discovered this amazing book back in 2017. I knew of it, but I didn’t pull the trigger to actually buy and read the book. So I waited on it, and in 2018 I decided that it was time. I heard so many amazing things about the book and how much it helped people, and at that time, it felt like I needed someone to tell me how to start living my life for me. And that is exactly what I got!

I recently dove back into the book, just to reminisce and see if there was anything more that I could learn from it. I came across this line... "Take the pressure off and get back in on the adventure." Now, this line was found in a section of the book that talks about getting back out there and revamping your life. Sincero encourages you to decide to take the risk that your inner self has been begging you to take for so long. And I didn't think that I needed to hear this as much as I did. During COVID-19, we were all forced to live in our safety bubble, forced to stay away from the community that surrounds us, and forced to separate ourselves from the normality of life. It made me think about where I was in life before COVID-19, and even then I wasn't living my life to my fullest potential.

So, I reached out to one of my best friends and asked if she wanted to hang out (I really needed to get out of the house and do something other than go to the grocery store). Luckily, she accepted and we went to the beach which was waaaaaayyyyyy more over populated than it should've been, and got to catch up with each other after not seeing each other the entire time during this pandemic. It felt amazing to step outside and do something that I believe to be normal - with the obvious pre-cautions being taken. It truly felt like I did what Sincero requested... I took all the pressure of the world off my shoulders and I stepped out to do something for myself and it was great!

I think that with the pressure that we all have been under during this pandemic, it has taught all of us an important lesson about what we find important in life and what we don't. It's shown us our true colors. But I think that it's also given us the time to sit with ourselves and digest what it is we really want out of life and what we want our reality to be. It's time to step out and get back to reality - or whatever our sense of reality might be. Text your friend! Put on your mask, pack some sanitizer, and get in you car to drive and do something that you've been craving to do for a while. Start romanticizing your life again, put yourself and your needs/wants on your top priority list. And make your life yours again!

I recommend reading this book if you want to a taste of control on your life. If you feel like you are stuck in a weird funk and it's hard to get out of... Pick up this book from the store! Spend a few days diving into the inner-workings of the paragraphs Sincero provides and take notes on the tools for live that she gives you. I bet that it will change your perspective on so many things. Happy reading!
